Small Acts of Love Open Big Doors of Hope.
Last evening, Cook Serve Pray returned to The Brú, with one simple mission: to share the love of Christ through hospitality.
Over the course of the outreach, we served 80 hot dogs and ice creams to children, young people, and families in the estate. Conversations were shared, friendships strengthened, laughter echoed across the courtyard, and for a little while, neighbours gathered around food rather than the struggles that so often dominate life in communities marked by suicide, addiction, hardship, and isolation.
When Jesus fed the hungry, He was doing more than meeting a physical need. He was revealing the Kingdom of God. Every meal became an invitation into relationship, dignity, and hope. "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat." Matthew 25:35
Cook Serve Pray is our attempt to follow that example. Church does not only happen inside four walls on a Sunday morning. Sometimes, the church looks like a gazebo in the middle of a housing estate. Sometimes it smells like hot dogs cooking in a pan. Sometimes it sounds like children laughing together. And for us, it begins with a simple question: "Would you like something to eat?"
We believe that sharing food can create space for conversation, trust, prayer, and ultimately the Gospel. Around a shared meal, barriers begin to fall. Relationships grow. Seeds of faith are planted. The early church was known for breaking bread together, sharing what they had, and ensuring no one was left in need. "They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts." Acts 2:46
Encouragingly, we were also invited to bring Cook Serve Pray into another similar estate in town. That invitation matters. It shows trust is beginning to grow, doors are opening, and this simple expression of church, food, presence, prayer, and relationship is being welcomed.
This is Cook Serve Pray. This is not simply a food outreach. It is an expression of the church that steps out from the four walls. One that goes to where people are rather than waiting for people to come to us. It is church around the table, church on the street, church among neighbours, church where Christ is already at work.
Thank you to everyone who made this possible. Those who prayed, served and donated.
Please continue to pray for every child, every family, and every conversation that took place. If you'd like to get involved with Cook Serve Pray, we'd love to have you. Join us as we serve our community, one meal, one conversation, and one prayer at a time.
May the food satisfy for a moment, but may Christ satisfy forever. "He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things." — Psalm 107:9
