WHY DO WE TAP OUT SO EASY?

“Without warning there was a sound like a strong wind, gale force… Then, like a wildfire, the Holy Spirit spread through their ranks…”

WE WANT THE FIRE,  BUT NOT THE FIGHT

We pray, “Come, Holy Spirit.”

But sometimes what we really mean is: Come, Holy Spirit… as long as it doesn’t cost me too much.

We want Pentecost without the pressure. Power without sacrifice. Mission without rejection.
Revival without repentance. A cross that looks good around our neck without having to carry one on our backs. But Pentecost wasn’t given to make the disciples comfortable.

The Spirit came to send them out.

Out of the room. Into the streets. Into opposition. Into uncomfortable conversations. Into persecution. Into the places where Jesus needed witnesses. And those frightened disciples became men and women willing to stake their lives on the Gospel.

IRON ISN’T FORGED IN COMFORT

Maybe the problem isn’t that God has stopped moving. Maybe we’ve become too quick to tap out. We pray twice and decide God isn’t listening. We mention Jesus once, somebody looks at us strangely, and we shut up. We start serving, get criticised, and walk away.

We lose the feeling, so we abandon the discipline. We meet resistance and assume we must have taken a wrong turn. But sometimes resistance doesn’t mean stop.

Sometimes it means:

Plant your feet.
Guard your heart.
Pray again.
Love again.
Serve again.
Get back in the ring.

INCENSE RISES. IRON ENDURES.

The Christian life needs both.

Incense: prayer, worship, surrender, silence before God.

Iron: courage, discipline, obedience, resilience, getting up when life drops you.

Prayer without obedience becomes religious talk. Action without prayer becomes human effort.

But when Iron & Incense come together, ordinary people become dangerous to the kingdom of darkness, because they refuse to stop loving, serving, praying and proclaiming Jesus.

THE SAME HOLY SPIRIT

Pentecost is not merely something we remember. The Church still depends upon the Holy Spirit. The Spirit who gave Peter courage to stand up is the Spirit who empowers Christ’s people today. So stop waiting until you feel brave.

Obey while your knees are shaking. Stop waiting until you feel spiritual. Pray anyway.

Stop waiting until somebody else goes first. Take the step.

Stop mistaking Christianity for a comfortable religious life.

Jesus said: “Take up your cross and follow me.”

That sounds much more like a fight than a fireside chair.

DON’T TAP OUT

Where did you stop? Where did disappointment make you retreat? Where have you allowed criticism, tiredness, rejection or fear to push you back into the corner?

Maybe Pentecost is your reminder: You’re still in the fight. Tonight, turn the phone off for ten minutes. No music. No scrolling. No noise.

Sit before God and ask: “Holy Spirit, where have I given up too soon?”

Then listen. Write it down. And tomorrow…take one step back into the ring.

Not because you’re tough enough. But because His grace is enough.
