Rest Is Holy
The phone keeps buzzing. Someone needs help. There’s another bill, another meeting, another job waiting to be done. Even when we sit down, our minds can keep running.
Then Scripture gives us something we struggle to give ourselves: permission to stop.
“Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy…” Genesis 2:3, NIV
Rest belongs within the goodness of God’s creation. For us, receiving it takes trust: the world remains in God’s hands when we put down our tools.
200 Bowls, 200 Kids, One Barangay in Cebu
There's a moment in every feeding programme when the queue of kids stretches further than the rice does, and you have to decide what kind of ministry you actually are. In Sta. Cruz, Liloan, Cebu, that moment came and went about a hundred times over, and every single kid got fed.
Two hundred children. One barangay. A team of volunteers who showed up early, stayed late, and didn't complain once about the heat.
An Open Door Is Not a Mission, Get Up and Go Find the Lost
The Church was never meant to be a building people visit, it was meant to be a movement people join. This is a call for incarnational ministry in its rawest form, the kind that gets you out from behind the pulpit and into the middle of real lives. Church outside the building is not a slogan, it is what Jesus actually did, and it is what a truly missional church looks like when it stops waiting and starts walking. This is what street ministry looks like lived out, not as a program but as obedience. If the Church is serious about church decline and what is causing it, the answer was never a better service, it was always going and making disciples, one street, one table, one wound at a time.
Break Bread Before Breaking Ground
I have come to understand that a lack of economic means is not the root problem of poverty, but yet we see it this way win the western world. Our vision needs to change so instead of seeing the solution in keeping this or that project going so we can bless our partners with a share of the economic wealth with which we have, ourselves been blessed, or to set up services that will provide basic needs for others. But still we insist that our money will solve the problem.
What Does It Mean To Live As An Echo of Jesus?
To live as an echo of Jesus is to let His life strike your life so deeply that what comes out of you sounds like Him.
Not a copy of church culture. Not a performance of religion. An echo.
Jesus speaks mercy, and our lives repeat it.
Jesus touches the rejected, and our hands repeat it.
Jesus forgives enemies, and our hearts repeat it.
Jesus feeds the hungry, and our tables repeat it.
Jesus goes to the margins, and our feet repeat it.
An echo does not originate the sound. It carries it.
Small Acts of Love Open Big Doors of Hope.
Last evening, Cook Serve Pray returned to The Brú with one simple mission: to share the love of Christ through hospitality.
Over the course of the outreach, we served 80 hot dogs and ice creams to children, young people, and families in the estate. Conversations were shared, friendships strengthened, laughter echoed across the courtyard, and for a little while, neighbours gathered around food rather than the struggles that so often dominate life in communities marked by addiction, hardship, and isolation.
Go & Wash
There is something deeply human about the desire for the spectacular. We want the burning bush, the parting sea, the fire falling from heaven. We want God to show up in thunder and lightning, in a great ceremony of smoke and divine pageantry. Naaman, the great Syrian commander, was no different and his story, told with striking honesty in 2 Kings 5:1–15, holds up a mirror to every one of us who has ever struggled to find the sacred in the simple.
